Learning the Basics of Bingo
The game starts when all participants have paid an entry fee or buy-in and have received their playing cards. The most common type of card is a 5 by 5 square of random numbers and each card has different numbers than all the others. In the online version, players will get randomly generated cards by the computer though a random number generator (RNG). Then each player gets chips and sometimes the center square is a free spot for every player.
All of the bingo balls are being mixed up in a bin or a type of cage that spins around. The bingo caller is basically the dealer who pulls out the balls and announces the letter and number. Since all of the balls are being mixed around, it will be a random ball like the lottery. Each ball has a number and letter. Depending on what variation of the game you are playing, this can be 75, 80 or 90 numbers total. Your card has 25 of these numbers. How to Win at Bingo
In classic bingo, the objective is to make a single line across the card diagonally, vertically or horizontally. This winning line will consist of 5 numbers. You make this line by listening to what the caller is shouting out. The caller will announce both a letter and number. If your card has this number, then you place a chip on that number so that you can remember it.
The caller will keep calling out numbers until someone gets a complete straight line across their card. When this happens, the player must shout out "BINGO!" so that everyone can hear. The caller will come down and double check your numbers. When this is successful and your win has been confirmed, you will win the grand prize jackpot and the game of bingo and a new round will start.
Although if you put a chip on the wrong number or misheard the caller, then the game will continue. In the event of a tie, which is when someone else gets a bingo at the same time you do, then the pot will usually be split and divided between the winners. In some cases, there can be more than two winners and it is actually quite often for a tie to occur, especially when there are many competitors.
